Meet Jordan Johnston, aka

"J_mxusic"

the sultry singer bringing real music back. by editor Allyplectura

In the vibrant music scene of Minnesota, where creativity flows like the mighty Mississippi, we have our new rising star J_mxusic. From the moment he steps onto the stage, it's clear that he possesses a rare and soulful gift that could captivate even the most jaded of hearts. His silky vocals, reminiscent of the legendary Prince, resonate with an authenticity that could only be born from the depths of his soul. Every word he sang was drenched in emotion, weaving tales of love, loss, and the human experience. It was as if he had an invisible thread connecting him to the very essence of music itself.  With skills like that, no doubt, the people want to know who is causing a buzz, and we got a chance to ask J a few questions about his start in music, his inspiration, and also his connection to the "Purple One" himself! Read below:

Hi J! We know you go by "J_mxusic", but what do others know you as?

My name is Jordan Johnston

Okay cool! Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 Minnesota! Just like Prince!

Yes!  My dad was signed to Flyte Tyme (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis) back in the 80/90s in an original pop band called “Kings English”. He has been a drummer/songwriter/producer pretty much his whole life. So growing up there has always been a studio in our home.

That makes total sense, especially with how talented you are. When did you find music or fall in love with it to pursue it seriously?

When I was 17 years old, I found myself messing around in the studio and fell in love with it!

I love that for you! What are some of the artists that inspire your sound?

Some of my favorite artists include Michael Jackson, Prince, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Mint Condition (also hailing from Minnesota), Earth, Wind & Fire, and Stevie Wonder just to name a few. R&B/pop music is definitely my favorite genre.

Each song is different when it comes to inspiration. Some songs are inspired by true life events, some are inspired by a sound or another song I hear. It truly all depends!

That is so true. It really connects with listeners when it comes from life experiences; do you have a favorite performance?

-Yes, my favorite live performance is “One Night One Star - Usher in Puerto Rico.” He had just released his album "Confessions" and in my opinion, I think he was just on top of the world at that moment in time.

I agree about Usher. I had the chance to see him perform during the "Confessions Tour" in his hometown in ATL, and the show was unreal! We see that for you too! What do you want your fans to know about you from your music?

- I want the listener to connect and interpret my music with their past, present, and future life experiences. I find it very interesting that everyone can listen to the same song but interpret it very differently based on their own life experiences.

Dope! Where can listeners interact with you and follow you?

- You can follow me on Instagram @j_mxusic and on Facebook @JordanJohnston

We thank Jordan so much for taking the time to chat with us! He has many shows coming up around Minnesota, so make sure to follow him to stay up to date! Links below to follow him!
